OTD News - Volume VIII, Issue 1

By: Mirtha Whaley, PhD, OTR/L Propelling Occupation , the 2016 Florida Occupational Therapy Association Annual Conference, was held at the Orlando Re- naissance Hotel on November 4 th and 5 th . Our OTD program was well represented, with faculty and student presentations covering a variety of practice issues and areas that included: Two Buzz Sessions (Dr. Whaley Mental Health SIS; Dr. Reinoso and Dr. Decker Sensory Integration SIS) Two Short Courses (Dr. Dennis McCarthy; Dr. Kurt Hubbard) Two Workshops (Dr. D’Amico; Dr. Carrasco and Dr. Whaley) Seven Student Poster presentations Our OTD program also had the distinction of receiving two student poster awards. The Most Dynamic Presentation Award given to Dr. Decker’s research group, Jordan Powers, Sarah Weldon, Ashely Edberg, and Emil Methipara for their research study titled Factors That Lead Occupational Therapists to Enter Private Practice. The Honorable Mention Award for Most Scientific Student Poster given to Dr. Carrasco’s research group for their research poster titled Investigation into the Relationship Between Anxiety, Stress-Response, and Lived Experiences Post Ikebana Interventions: A Pilot Study. Congratulations to the award recipients and to all the faculty and students who, through their presentations, are promot- ing the scholarship of occupational therapy, our profession, and our program.
