3 Faculty Accomplishments By: Mariana D’Amico, EdD, OTR/L, BCP, FAOTA Faculty accomplishments for the 5 th anniversary OTD news celebration. The faculty of inception still in the OT Department are Dr. Carrasco, 5 years; Dr. Davenport, 4 ½ years; Dr. Whaley, 4 years; and Dr. Longpré, 4 years. Additional faculty that have been hired include: Dr. McCarthy, 3 years; Dr. Reinoso, 3 years; Dr. Decker, 2 years; and Dr. D’Amico, 2 years. Our staff currently include Karla Quinones, 4 1/2 years; Betsy Beltran, 1 year; and Laurene Bowe, 6 months. During this time faculty and staff have achieved many accomplishments and milestones! Our most important is that we have graduated our first cohort class of 2015 who are now working as professionals with class of 2016 close on their heels. Our saddest is that while Dr. Davenport was here at Tampa for nearly 5 years, he has left us for more opportunity, still within the OT Department but now the Director of the PhD Pro- gram on the Ft. Lauderdale Campus as of August 1, 2016. The OTD Program launched its first edition of the journal OCCUPATION: A medium of inquiry for students, faculty and other practitioners advocating for health through oc- cupational studies November 2015 as the legacy of the class of 2015 which can be freely ac- cessed through NSUworks. Staff accomplishments include: Karla Quinones ’ induction into the Academy for Career Enrichment (ACE) as the first cohort through the Center for Academic and Professional Excel- lence (CAPE) in the College of Health Care Sciences. Faculty accomplishments follow: Dr. Carrasco: 2011-2016 Dr. Carrasco is the founding Department Chair of the entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program located on the Tampa Campus. In this role, he has achieved many things for the Department. These include: June 2012 he started as Department Chair for the program, in Novem- ber 2012, he initiated the ongoing traditions to celebrate student accom- plishments now referred to as Fall Ceremonies; Dr. Carrasco continues his teaching within the OTD Program, OT Depart- ment and the community. He is a member of the Chair of FOTA Practice Standing Committee supervising 11 Special Interest Section Activities; FO- TA Annual Conference, supervised hosting annual state conference at the Tampa Regional Campus, 2012; Ikebana International, Orlando-Winter Park Chapter 132, Webmaster & Membership Directory; Ikebana International, St. Petersburg Chapter 65, School Advisor; Ikebana International, St. Petersburg Chapter 65, Sogetsu Demonstration, organization and hosting sensei for invitational demonstration by Tokyo- based sensei, and Ikebana International, Tokyo, Banmi Shofu Ryu Demonstration, June 2014. He mentors several OTD research groups as well. Dr. Carrasco’s scholarly work during this time includes: annual presentations at the 2012 – 2016 Florida Occupational Therapy Association (total of 12); presentations in 2013, 2014 & 2016, American Occupational Therapy Association – podium and poster presentations; Page 8 OTD News, Volume VII, Issue 3 Karla M.
