Page 7 OTD News, Volume VII, Issue 3 By: Mirtha Whaley, Ph.D., OTR/L Alpha Eta honor society was initially proposed in 1973 to recognize students in allied health profes- sions who distinguish themselves through their scholarship. The society, named after letters of the Greek alphabet that are also the first letters in the words “allied health,” was chartered in Florida in 1975, and later in Georgia, in 1998. As of this writing, the society has inducted over 25,000 members. On December of 2008 our university joined the ranks of the society becoming its 68 th Chapter, creat- ed to recognize not only students of allied health, but to acknowledge through induction into the Nu Sigma Upsilon (NSU) Chapter, the outstanding accomplishments of faculty and alumni as well. Mem- bers nominated for induction have to meet stringent criteria regarding their scholarship, leadership, and the contributions they have made to allied health professions. Dr. Davenport and Dr. Whaley, two of our Tampa OTD faculty were inducted into the Nu Sigma Up- silon (NSU) Chapter of the Alpha Eta Society in 2014, while Dr. Carrasco and Dr. D’Amico, were rec- ognized during the 2014 and 2015 inductions respectively for having their memberships transferred to our NSU Chapter. Dr. Longpré was inducted into the society in 2015, along with Kristin McMillen, graduating student in the Class of 2015, and this past August our OTD faculty and students were again acknowledged for their contributions to the health professions. Inducted into the society in cer- emonies held the evening before commencement were Drs. Arnold, McCarthy, and Reinoso from our Tampa OTD faculty, and graduating students Kim Bartels, Megan Dadez, Lee Meach, and Mara Rosen. Congratulations to our faculty and students on their induction into Alpha Eta Nu Sigma Epsilon. 2016 Alpha Eta Society
