Page 7 OTD News, Volume VI, Issue 1 By: Mirtha Whaley, Ph.D., OTR/L Two members of our Tampa faculty recently had an opportunity to put the spotlight on our profession and our program. On Monday, January 11th, 2016 Dr. Dennis McCarthy and Dr. Mirtha Whaley were interviewed for WFLA’s Daytime Show in Tampa. The show, hosted by Cyndi Edwards, aired on Wednesday, January 13th, and focused on safety tips for seniors. Both Dr. Whaley and Dr. McCarthy discussed personal and contextual factors that increase the risk of injury for seniors, with Dr. Whaley addressing fall and injury prevention in the home, and Dr. McCarthy providing tips for senior drivers, and introducing CarFit, a community event well known to our students and faculty. We look forward to more opportunities for consumer education, advocacy, and community engagement. Faculty in the News WFLA: “Safety Tips for Seniors.”
