18 | Occupational Therapy POSTPROFESSIONAL DOCTORAL COURSE OF STUDY The Occupational Therapy Department at Nova Southeastern University offers the following two postprofessional doctoral degrees: • Doctor of Occupational Therapy (Dr.O.T.)—Advanced Practice Doctorate • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Occupational Therapy—Research Doctorate Applicants to NSU’s Dr.O.T. program must have completed an occupational therapy entry-level program and be eligible to practice as an occupational therapist within one year of initiating the program. Applicants to NSU’s Ph.D. program can enter through one of two routes: (1) tradition- ally, after completion of an occupational therapy entry-level program, or (2) via the Bridge to Ph.D. program following completion of a postprofessional clinical doctoral degree in occupational therapy. Both doctoral programs are offered through Canvas online learning system. Students start courses online and travel to campus each trimester for a midsession week- end of one to three days with face-to-face coursework. The rest of the course is complet- ed online. Distance coursework may include readings, papers, practicum experiences, other online assignments and asynchronous discussions, live voice chats, and other communication between students and with the instructor.
