34 • NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY Spotlight on New Faculty Member Jessica Steen, O.D., FAAO Jessica Steen, O.D., FAAO, instructor of ocular pharmacol- ogy and clinical instructor, received her Doctor of Optome- try degree from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and completed her residency training in primary care with emphasis in ocular disease at NSU’s College of Optometry. Her primary clinical interests include neuro- ophthalmic, retinal, and anterior segment disease, with emphasis in medical and surgical management. Steen, a peer-reviewed and published author in the field of retinal disease and retinal oncology, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association, as well as the Broward County and Palm Beach County optometric associations. u Thuy-Lan Nguyen, O.D. Thuy-Lan Nguyen, O.D., assistant professor, received her Doctor of Optometry degree from NSUCO in 2002 and completed her residency training in primary care with an emphasis on cornea and contact lenses, also at NSUCO. In 2003, she was named NSUCO’s Resident of the Year. After completing her residency training, Nguyen became a clinical and adjunct instructor for the college in addition to owning and operating a private practice in South Florida. Over the years, she has participated as a sub-investigator in contact lens research and lectured on specialty contact lenses. In addition to serving as an examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, Nguyen was honored as one of Vision Monday magazine’s Optometric Business Innovators of 2014 and featured in Women in Optometry magazine in 2015. She has also written articles for Contact Lens Spectrum and the online Review of Optometric Business . Nguyen, who volunteers with Vision Service Plan’s (VSP) mobile eye clinics and serves as VSP’s state professional representative for South Florida, is a member of the American Optometric Associa- tion, Florida Optometric Association, and Broward County Optometric Association. u
