32 • NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY Spotlight on New Faculty Members Jasleen Jhajj, O.D., FAAO Jasleen Jhajj, O.D., FAAO, assistant professor of pediatrics and binocular vision, practiced full-scope optometry in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, for several years after graduating from the University of Waterloo with her Doctor of Optometry degree. Jhajj then went on to complete her pediatrics and binocular vision residency at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. In addition to being involved in clinical teaching at The Eye Care Institute, Jhajj’s interests include pediatrics, binocular vision, vision therapy, vision-related learning conditions, and traumatic brain injury. She also works as a guest lecturer within the pediatric and binocular vision clinics and provides lectures at optometric continuing education events. Jhajj, who is an active researcher with the Convergence Insuffi- ciency Treatment Trial and the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group, is an active member of the Miami-Dade Optometric Physicians Association and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. u Beata Lewandowska, O.D. (Dipl.) Beata Lewandowska, O.D. (Dipl.), assistant professor, previously worked at a multi-subspecialty, tertiary care referral private practice with multiple locations throughout Broward and Miami-Dade counties. She comanaged patients presenting with a broad range of ocular pathology and provided presurgical counseling, as well as postsurgical care. She also had an opportunity to screen patients seeking refractive surgery and participate in their postoperative care. Prior to joining NSUCO as a full-time faculty member, Lewandowska occasionally worked at commercial settings providing primary opto- metric care and basic contact lens fittings. She also served as an NSUCO externship director and residency coordinator. Lewandowska earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Florida and her Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University. In 2005, she completed a residency in ocular disease at Aran Eye Associates in Coral Gables, Florida. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry and a member of the Miami-Dade Optometric Physicians Association, the Florida Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association. u
