College of Optometry - The Visionary Fall 2015

32 • NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY The 2015 calendar of events for continuing education included the Annual May Eye Care Conference and Alumni Reunion, during which 275 doctors earned credits. The 1995 and 2005 classes were honored during the alumni busi- ness luncheon, with their reception taking place at the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame. Judging by the photos, they had a rousing good time. In addition, the college’s Office of Continuing Education hosted its third conference at St. Simons Island in Georgia, with many of our alumni attending the educational sessions and enjoy- ing the beach. In fact, a number of the alumni made it a family vacation and rented homes nearby or stayed at the host hotel—the King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort. This conference continues to grow in popularity, which is why it will be scheduled again sometime in 2017. Our next continuing education event was the Orlando Super Weekend/Getting Comfortable with Posterior Segment conference, which was held at the NSU Orlando Campus on Novem- ber 14–15. The conference addressed the topic of distinct posterior segment conditions, with an emphasis on systemic causes, proper referral, review of the literature with regard to today’s management, and value of diagnostic modalities. During the 2016 Eye Care Conference and Alumni Reunion, the college will be honoring the classes of 2011, 2006, 2001, and 1996 on April 30. On a bit- tersweet note, Melanie A. Crandall, O.D., M.B.A., FAAO, associate professor, has assumed additional clinic responsibilities and has turned over the continuing education reins to Vanessa McDonald, M.S., manager of continuing education. u Continuing Education
