COLLEGE OF OPTOMETRY • 19 NSUCO Faculty Members Receive President’s Faculty Research and Development Grants On May 12, a number of NSUCO faculty members, in collaboration with other NSU faculty researchers, were awarded cash endowments during NSU’s 16th Annual President’s Faculty Research and Development Grant Awards ceremony. NSUCO was the recipient of two President’s Faculty Research and Development Grants. u Hua Bi , O.D., Ph.D., received a grant for her coau- thored project titled, “Pre- and Post-Treatment Ocular Structure and Function in Hypothyroidism.” From left: Hua Bi, O.D., Ph.D., assistant professor; George L. Reed , O.D., FAAO, left, professor, was recently interviewed on the Doctor Radio program on XM/Sirius Radio, where she discussed the importance of nutrition throughout the life span in reducing risk of not only eye disease, but also many other diseases that are more common as people age. This was Reed’s second appearance on the popular radio talk show. She has also been featured on several other local, regional, and national radio and television programs promot- ing the message of proper nutrition for eye health, and has been frequently quoted in print and online media journals as an expert in eye-related nutrition. Reynolds , O.D., FAAO, left, associate professor, had her article, “How to Develop a Retina Niche: Use These Strategies to Provide Patients with Prompt Manage- ment and Education,” published in Optometric Management . Joseph Sowka , O.D., FAAO, professor, and Rim Makhlouf , O.D., FAAO, assistant professor, had their article, “Glaucomatocyclitic Crisis: A Not- So-Benign Disease?” published in the July issue of Review of Optometry . Yin Tea , O.D., FAAO, left, assistant professor and chief of pediatrics and binocu- lar vision, was quoted in a Spanish article on www .univision.com titled, “ Cómo Detectar si Tu Hijo Necesita Gafas ,” or “How to Detect if Your Child Needs Glasses.” Ava Bittner , O.D., Ph.D., FAAO; Kenneth Seger , O.D., M.Sc. , FAAO; Albert David Woods , O.D.; and Samantha Kayser , B.S., earned a grant for their project titled, “Electro-Simulation Therapies to Improve/Maintain Vision in Retinitis Pigmentosa.” From left: David S.
