CLASS NOTES Bridget Vera, D.N.P., A.P.R.N., AGPCNP-BC, APHN-BC (’13), opened a woman-owned medical practice called Primary Care Plus, LLC, which focuses on providing primary care to adult and geriatric patients. SHEPARD BROAD COLLEGE OF LAW Jamaal Jones, J.D. (’10), became chair of The Florida Bar Health Law Section in June 2024. He is the first Black person to hold this position in the history of The Florida Bar. Additionally, he is the founder and principal attorney at Jones Health Law, P.A., which has offices in Miami, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; and Washington, D.C. His practice focuses on health care transactions, regulatory compliance, and license defense for medical and dental professionals and health care facilities. Janice Law, J.D. (’79), has held several prestigious positions since graduating from the college. These include serving in Bartow, Texas, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as an assistant state attorney; a staff attorney for federal judges in the Southern District of Texas; an assistant city attorney in Houston, Texas; an assistant U.S. attorney in McAllen, Texas; and a county criminal court judge in Houston. She has authored nine nonfiction books and wrote a travel column for the Galveston Daily News for about 18 years. Kristin Murphy, J.D. (’05), is a Nova Middle School teacher and co-coach of the school’s competition law team, which was selected as one of two Florida teams to compete in the National We the People Constitutional Hearing Competition in Washington, D.C. John Paul, J.D. (’09), who earned his B.A. in Legal Studies from the Farquhar Honors College in 2006, is a lawyer on the leading edge of cyber fraud prosecution as a senior assistant statewide prosecutor with the Office of the Florida Attorney General’s Cyber Fraud ONE NSU MAGAZINE Enforcement Unit, which investigates and prosecutes cyber fraud cases across the state of Florida. Kahalia Solano-Johnson, J.D., LL.M. (’21), owns and operates the Solano Law Firm, which provides contract attorney services, including general counsel services, government contracting solutions, labor and employment law, sports and entertainment law, and diversity and inclusion services. She earned a Master of Laws degree in entertainment, arts, and sports law from the University of Miami School of Law in 2024. Keith E. Sonderling, J.D. (’08), was sworn in as acting director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) in March 2025 after being designated to the role by President Donald J. Trump. The IMLS, an independent government agency, is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s museums and libraries. 92
