Valerie Miranda, M.S. (’16), who earned her master’s degree in marine biology, is working for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife as its South Coast Port biologist. Her position involves taking biological data from mostly commercial groundfish. She is also the liaison between the commercial fleet, recreational fisherman, buyers, and the state to help them understand regulations and answer questions. Sunil H. Patel, D.O. (’02), who earned her B.S. in Biology from the Halmos College in 2002 and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Mid- western University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, serves as medical director of the Advanced Medical Kidney Institute in California. Nergess Taheri, D.O. (’17), who earned her B.S. in Biology from NSU’s Halmos College in 2011 and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from NSU in 2017, is the assistant program director of the Lakeside Medical Center Family Medicine Program in Belle Glade, Florida. Matthew Woodstock, Ph.D. (’18), transitioned from a postdoctoral scholar position at the Woods Hole Oceano- graphic Institution in Massa- chusetts to an assistant scientist position at the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies in Miami, Florida, in support of the NOAA Southeast Fisheries Science Center/U.S. Department of Commerce. (’92), who earned his degree in real estate development and management, is the president and founder of Berger Commercial Realty. Andrew Koenig, M.B.A. (’07), and his wife Deana Licata, M.B.A. (’06), met when they were students at the college. Andrew Koenig serves as CEO at CITY Furniture. NSU debuted its U.S. Army ROTC program, which is an elective curriculum students can take along with their required college classes. 2020 Partnering with Broward County, NSU announced the creation of the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation. Occupying space on the fifth floor of NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library, the center brings together NSU students and faculty members, entrepreneurs, and investors and serves as an economic development engine for South Florida. 2021 The Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation opened, as did HCA University Hospital, at Nova Southeastern University’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus. 2022 The Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel International Dental Program expanded to NSU’s Tampa Bay Regional Campus, while NSU’s Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences expanded its M.S. in Anesthesia program to a new education site in Denver, Colorado.
