(’21), who earned her B.S. in Biology from the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences, was appointed treasurer for the national Student Osteopathic Medical Association—the largest student-led organization for osteopathic medical students. She was also appointed to the American Osteopathic Association Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Advisory Group, which discusses methods to promote patient safety, fairness, and transparency in medical practice. Aarabhi Rajagopal, M.D., FAAP (’15), who received her B.S. in Biology from the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences, is completing a fellowship in pediatric hospital medicine and recently accepted a fulltime position at Seattle Children’s Hospital as a pediatric hospitalist and assistant pro- fessor of pediatrics. Kylie Wilkinson, B.S. (’20), who received her B.S. in Biology from the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences, was promoted to the position of Pisgah national forest partnerships coordinator. She participated for the first time as a public information officer during recent fires in Oregon. HALMOS COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES Jake Bence, Ph.D. (’18), who earned his B.S. in Chemistry from the college, was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory after receiving his Ph.D. in Chemistry from The City University of New York. Spencer S. Carlisle, B.A. (’24), who earned his bachelor’s degree in theatre, has the lead role in the Fantasy Theater Factory production of Wizards, Dragons, and Books. He is also touring throughout South Florida in Tony and Tina’s Familia and appeared in a conservation-themed play about the Everglades at the Fantasy Theater. Desiree Kennedy, B.S. in Legal Studies and B.A. in Political Science (’14), was named chief operating officer for President Joe Biden’s, then Vice President Kamala Harris’s, presidential campaign in North Carolina. Previously, she served as the D.C. deputy chief of staff for Representative Nanette Barragán. Norberto Mancera, M.D. (’11), who earned his bachelor’s degree in biology, is a wellknown ophthalmologist/ surgeon in Tampa, Florida. Emma Masur, M.A. (’22), was profiled in Shoutout Ohio magazine. She is an entrepreneur who opened her own graphic design studio called The Lookout Co. in Columbus, Ohio, where she provides clients across the U.S. with professional branding consultations, as well as print, packaging, and web design services. Katheryn Medina, M.A. (’22), a Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences graduate, works as a fish biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Abernathy Fish Technology Center in 2016 NSU’s Center for Collaborative Research opened in 2016 after years of anticipation. The six-story facility is equipped with wet and dry labs, state-of-the-art research equipment, and other resources. 2017 The Drs. Kiran C. and Pallavi Patel Family Foundation contributed a $55-million philanthropic gift that expanded the newly named Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine and Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences. The Patels’ commit- ment also included $150-million investment in real estate and facilities to develop an additional site for NSU’s Tampa Bay Regional Campus in Clearwater, Florida. 2018 The Drs. Kiran C. and Pallavi Patel Family Foundation donated $25 million to NSU’s new M.D. college, which was named the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine in recognition of this philanthropy. Additionally, the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice launched the Fischler Education Academy to educate future teachers and provide guaranteed job offers upon graduation. 87
