ONE NSU MAGAZINE CLASS NOTES Adrienne Fuller, Ed.D. (’24), who earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in instructional technology and distance education, was named director of online education and educational technology at Florida Memorial University. Robert Gibson, M.S. (’96), who earned his M.S. in Educational Leadership, was honored with the 2024–25 Principal Leadership Award from Florida Tax Watch. He currently serves as the principal at Palmview Elementary within the Broward County Public Schools system. Matthew Goodnow, Ph.D. (’24), who earned his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, was appointed to the Broward Sheriff’s Office of Strategic Management. Danielle Hawk, M.A. (‘03), who received her Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning, was named superintendent of Brown Local Schools in Malvern, Ohio, effective August 1. Sara Hudson, M.S. (’15), was named 2024 Orange County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. She teaches fifth grade at Prairie Lake Elementary School in Orlando, Florida. Pablo Ortiz, Ed.D. (’02), was named provost of Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. Sharetta Remikie, Ed.D. (’16), was selected as a 2024 March of Dimes Woman of Distinction. She currently serves as chief public affairs officer at the Children’s Services Council of Broward County, Florida. Gadyaces Serralta, M.S. (’10), who earned his Master of Science in Leadership, was appointed director of the United States Marshal Service by President Donald Trump. Glenda Sheffield, Ed.D. (’05), was named superintendent of the Hampton County School District in South Carolina. She previously served as the chief academic officer for the School District of Palm Beach County in Florida. Shawn C. Thomas, Ed.D. (’17), was appointed vice president of workforce development and community partnerships at Northampton Community College in Pennsylvania. Lesley Thompson, Ed.D. (’01), was appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to the Lower Florida Keys Hospital District. She currently serves as director of exceptional student education for Monroe County Schools. Bryan Zugelder, Ed.D. (’06), was named dean of Illinois State University’s College of Education effective July 1, 2025. BARRY AND JUDY SILVERMAN COLLEGE OF PHARMACY Dianeysis Avendano, Pharm.D. (’04), was appointed to the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy’s Clinical Outcomes Committee. Madeline Camejo, Pharm.D. (’97), was named president- elect of the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists and will become the organization’s president in August. Additionally, she was selected as Top Chief Pharmacy Officer of the Year for 2025 by the International Association of Top Professionals for her outstanding leadership, 1967 Classes at Nova University formally began, with the student body consisting of 17 Ph.D. students in behavioral science, physics and physical chemistry, and oceanography. There were 17 faculty members and 38 staff members. 1968 The Louis Parker Physical Sciences Center, the Davie Living Complex, and the Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus officially opened. Additionally, 10 acres of land were deeded to Nova University by the Broward County Commission at Port Everglades for relocation of the Physical Oceanographic Laboratory. 1969 NSU University School opened on the Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus, extending Nova University’s educational programs down to the elementary and secondary levels. 1970 The first five Nova University graduates received their Ph.D. degrees. A federation with the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) was established. 77
