ONE NSU MAGAZINE $20-million gift to the university to further enhance ALS research—and potentially find a cure for the insidious illness. The $20-million gift is the second-largest individual donation in NSU history and the largest-ever investment in NSU research. Additionally, in 2024, Husman donated $11 million worth of Asian and European sculptures and a collection of original works from the late photographer Marc Hauser, bringing his total NSU giving to $41 million. NSU Health’s Cathy J. Husman ALS Center, which has been designated as an ALS Association Certified Treatment Center of Excellence™, has engaged a team of more than a dozen ALS specialists who provide care to nearly 200 patients from across the U.S. and internationally. The center offers evidencebased, multidisciplinary ALS care and services in a supportive atmosphere that emphasizes hope and quality of life. NSU EARNS CARNEGIE R1 RESEARCH DESIGNATION NSU recently reached a level of standing few of the nearly 4,000 higher education institutions in the United States have achieved—designation as an R1 research university by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. NSU is one of only two private universities in Florida with this designation and is also one of two universities in Florida to achieve this designation this year. R1 is an elite designation given by Carnegie to universities with the highest levels of research activity, including research funding exceeding $50 million and more than 70 doctoral degrees awarded. This R1 classification marks NSU’s culmination VETERANS CARE EARNS ATTENTION Florida State Senator Alexis Calatayud visited the Alan B.
