ONE NSU Magazine 2025

ONE NSU MAGAZINE MUSICAL ROOTS My initial interest in music occurred because of my family. My grandfather and uncles in Jamaica are well-known local musicians, and my older cousin used to be in a rap group. I remember going to my first stage show at the age of seven and seeing my favorite reggae artist. My father was a promoter of sorts, so he would take me backstage to meet the artists. That was the point in time where my interest in producing music developed. SAKEER WILLIAMS, who works as the Digital Print Services manager in Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU’s) Division of Business Services, is well on his way to fulfilling his goal of becoming a multihyphenate artist, music producer, and sound engineer. Williams is also enhancing his career by pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance at NSU, adding to the audio technology diploma he earned from the School of Audio Engineering and the Associate in Applied Science degree he received from Broward College. PRODIGIOUS PRODUCER I started out as an artist, but I currently produce my own music. I am part of two music groups—Thirty Six, which is more of a hip-hop group, and a music production group called WRLD COURT. I also record and mix songs for local artists. What I enjoy most about sound engineering and production is being in a studio session where the artist and I bounce ideas off each other. IDEAL SESSION An ideal session is when you get to do something unique. I was in a session one night where we did different mixes of a song, including dance and soft rock. We tried various vocal styles, and the mood in the session was, “Let’s try something to make it sound fresh and crazy.” 46
