Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing (ACON) 2025–2026 130 • Witnesses will be called in individually, if necessary, to be questioned and to provide any statements. Any witness may be asked to remain outside the meeting room for later recall. The student will not be present during the questioning of any witness. • The student will be given an opportunity to present statements to the committee. The student will only be present during the student’s statement and to respond to any questions from the committee. • The CSP chair will dismiss the student and any witnesses and close the meeting for discussion. • At the conclusion of the discussion, the committee shall make recommendations to the program director. • The program director and the dean of Academic Programs, or designee, shall review the committee’s recommendations, make a final decision, and notify the student, in writing, by certified mail (return receipt requested), and by email with response requested. • The recommendations of the CSP and all reports, letters, and investigative records shall be maintained by the program for not less than five years. This information is not part of the student’s permanent record or the student’s transcript. Students have the right to appeal the decision within five business days of notification to the ACON’s College-Wide Appeals Committee (CWAC). The date and time of the CWAC meeting will be provided. A request for appeal must follow the procedures outlined in the Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing Student Handbook section titled Student Appeals. Student Code of Conduct, Student Academic and Disciplinary Procedures, and Academic Dishonesty All ACON students are required to abide by the NSU Code of Student Conduct and Academic Responsibility, Academic Dishonesty, and Student Disciplinary Policies located elsewhere in this Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing Student Handbook and in the NSU Student Handbook. Additionally, nursing students are expected to adhere to the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) Code on Academic and Clinical Conduct. Nurse Anesthesiology students are required to adhere to the Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetist Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. Academic and disciplinary status may impact a student’s eligibility to be awarded honors recognition or serve in any leadership position. To be eligible to participate in any of the above mentioned, students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing and must maintain the required GPA each term/semester. Academic Warning/Probation/Dismissal The purpose of this policy is to identify and provide assistance to students who are not making satisfactory academic progress. To enhance students’ chances of achieving the best academic outcomes, the ACON has adopted academic standards designed to identify those students who are experiencing academic difficulty, and to provide timely intervention through academic advising and academic support
