Students will be responsible for payment for additional drug or alcohol screenings due to diluted/random urine specimens, repeat screenings, or those requested by outside institutions. Positive drug or alcohol screenings may require the ACON to notify the Florida Board of Nursing or an impaired practitioner program under Florida law. There are circumstances in which students may need to take over-the-counter or prescribed medications that have the potential to impair their performance or personal behavior. As such, all students are responsible for being aware of the effect these medications may have on performance and drug screenings. If a student uses a medication that has the potential to impair performance or influence a drug screen, the student may be unable to participate in clinical activities until the student has been cleared by the program and/or clinical affiliate. This may extend program length or result in the student’s inability to complete their academic program. Any student may be required to submit to drug and/or alcohol testing based upon what the faculty members and administration consider to be reasonable grounds to suspect drug or alcohol use, including, but not limited to • direct observation of drug or alcohol use or possession • physical behaviors related to the influence of drugs or alcohol • abnormal or erratic behavior that is disruptive or a risk to others • arrest or conviction of a drug- or alcohol-related offense on or off campus • documented information from a credible source • evidence that a previous drug or alcohol test was tampered with • possession of drug paraphernalia • after treatment for drug use Students required to submit to drug or alcohol testing may be subject to immediate removal from all academic coursework and/or clinical activities during the pendency of the drug or alcohol testing process. The ACON administration will order the student for drug/alcohol testing to be performed at a qualified designated laboratory site identified by the college. The ACON reserves the right to require students to submit to additional follow-up drug or alcohol screenings at its discretion. Students who • test positive on a drug or alcohol urine screen • have a repeated inconclusive and/or diluted drug/alcohol urine screen* • refuse to submit to a drug or alcohol urine screen • demonstrate illegal or disruptive actions related to drug use • have an arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia or other illegal possession/use of drugs • have a demonstrated dependence to drugs or alcohol
