Nursing Student Handbook 2025-2026

Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing (ACON) 2025–2026 114 insurance waiver to waive the health colleges insurance fee at nova.edu/bursar/health-insurance. Students are responsible for complying with this requirement by the NSU-designated due date each year, or they will be charged. Some insurance policies require a primary care provider (PCP) designation. In such cases, students should designate an NSU provider prior to visiting our healthcare center or the NSU-designated physician for their area. For a list of providers and participating insurance carriers, visit nsuhealth.nova.edu. Client Safety The faculty members recognize that nursing students are learners. However, the physical and emotional safety of a client cannot be placed in jeopardy. The inability of a student to provide consistent, safe care or to follow the policies and procedures of the affiliating agency or the school will result in the student being asked to leave the clinical area and may result in a referral to the CSP for disciplinary action, up to, and including, the student’s dismissal from the ACON or being required to withdraw from the program. Background Checks See the College-Level Policies and Procedures section on background checks. Students must also follow the requests and requirements of the clinical facilities. Students have the continuing obligation to disclose to the college any arrest or conviction, other than a minor traffic violation (those where no criminal conviction occurs and no first offender/pretrial diversion program was granted). A level 2 background check or an additional background check may be required of students completing certain rotations. If required, the student is responsible for payment. Offers of admission will not be considered final until the completion of the background check, with results deemed favorable by the health college(s). Immunization Requirements See the College-Level Policies and Procedures section on Immunization Requirements. Students must also follow the requests and requirements of the clinical facilities and must maintain compliance throughout the program. Eligibility for Florida R.N. Licensure and Required Disclosure During enrollment in the semester in which a student is scheduled to complete all of the program requirements, the student is responsible for applying for graduation and to the Florida (or other state) Board of Nursing to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The application to the Florida Board of Nursing’s contracted vendor (Pearsonvue) for testing is also the responsibility of the student. Students will be required to successfully complete one or more diagnostic exams that measure the readiness to successfully complete the NCLEX-RN examination. Students will also take a review course in NUR 4180 for the NCLEX-RN examination prior to receiving the final course grade in the Accelerated B.S.N./B.S.N. programs.
