Nova Southeastern University | 23 DOCTOR OF NURSING PRACTICE NSU’s Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing offers two paths to achieving a Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) degree: the D.N.P. and the B.S.N. to D.N.P. Both paths share the program overview, goal, and outcomes. PROGRAM OVERVIEW The online Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) program at NSU is a practice-focused, terminal degree designed to serve • post-M.S.N nurse practitioners • nurse midwives • nurse anesthetists • nurse informaticists • nurse educators • clinical nurse specialists • nurse managers/executives NSU’s D.N.P. curriculum features a convenient online format that builds on a master’s degree foundation. Graduates of NSU’s D.N.P. program are prepared to lead and engage in practical, clinically fo- cused scholarship and research utilization. Focusing heavily on practice that is innovative and based in evidence, the final D.N.P. project reflects the implementation of research findings. Faculty members with advanced preparation in the concentration areas will guide students through their educational journeys. Each student is assigned an adviser to assist with program guidance. PROGRAM GOAL The purpose of NSU’s D.N.P. program is to prepare nurses at the highest professional level of nursing practice to advance the application of nursing knowledge with the intention of improving health care for diverse populations. PROGRAM OUTCOMES Graduates of NSU’s D.N.P. program will be able to • implement and evaluate nursing practice, including innovative approaches, based on scientific knowledge • assume organizational and system leadership in the analysis, delivery, and management of nursing care • critique and selectively translate science to guide clinical decision making, practice standards, and program development • use current technologies to advance the quality and accessibility of care • evaluate and influence health care policies and systems • employ skills in effective communication, collaboration, consultation, and leader- ship to create change that will improve patient and population health outcomes • demonstrate expertise in developing, implementing, and evaluating clinical prevention and population health activities within contemporary society • assume specialized roles in advanced clinical practice
