GRADUATE NURSING
Nova Southeastern University | 13 PROGRAM OVERVIEW NSU’s Master of Science in Nursing—Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (M.S.N. A.P.R.N.) program offers the opportunity for a registered nurse with a baccalaureate degree to become an advanced practice registered nurse (A.P.R.N.) with concentra- tions in • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) NSU’s program may be completed in eight terms of full-time study. Coursework includes 15 credits of core classes that are consistent for all NSU M.S.N. graduates, plus an addi- tional 36 credits for FNP, AGACNP, or PMHNP focused on advanced clinical content. A total of 51 credits is required for nurse practitioner concentrations. All M.S.N. courses are taught by faculty members with advanced preparation in the area of concentration. An assigned adviser is available for individualized program guidance. The core courses are totally online, while other courses have a hybrid format. The FNP courses are offered in a hybrid format on both the Palm Beach and Tampa Bay Regional campuses. The AGACNP courses are offered on NSU’s Palm Beach Campus and meet over two days, one weekend per month. The PMHNP courses are offered on NSU’s Miramar and Tampa Bay Regional campuses in a hybrid format. ✔ TIP The amount of time spent on campus is dependent on each specific course. Beginning in the fourth term of the program, NSU students engage in population-specific, direct patient care under the direction of a program-approved preceptor. They spend a total of 520 hours of directed clinical practice in the concentration. During this time, students are expected to apply and synthesize knowledge gained from all courses. M.S.N. A.P.R.N.
