INTERNATIONAL NEW STUDENT CHECKLIST You’re on your way to officially becoming a Shark! Follow these next steps to Shark success. Contact your admissions counselor to discuss next steps at nova.edu/meetmycounselor. MAKE IT OFFICIAL! CONFIRM YOUR ENROLLMENT BY MAY 1. This requires a $200 nonrefundable deposit. Pay online at nova.edu/deposit. You’ll need your N#. DETERMINE IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR ADDITIONAL AID Apply for FAFSA at studentaid.gov if you are a US citizen, permanent resident, or if you have been approved for asylum/refugee status. Apply for Florida State Aid if you live in Florida with your family. F-1 students are not eligible for additional aid. SUBMIT FINAL TRANSCRIPTS AND TEST SCORES Submit final, official transcripts to NSU, showing proof of graduation (if you recently graduated from high school) or all coursework complete (if you are transferring). If you took any dual-enrollment courses, request final, official transcript(s) directly from the institution(s) where you received college credit. If you took Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses, or Cambridge International Examinations, and took corresponding exams, please submit official test scores directly from the testing agency. IF APPLICABLE, SUBMIT OFFICIAL ACT, SAT, AND/OR ENGLISH PROFICIENCY TEST SCORES If you did not apply as test-optional and you self-reported ACT, SAT, or English proficiency scores, please have official test scores sent to NSU directly from the testing agency. SAT School Code: 5514 ACT School Code: 6706 6. ATTEND NEW STUDENT & INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION International students are required to attend two orientation events. New Student Orientation is required for all students and International Student Orientation is required for students with an I-20 form (this event is optional for international students without an I-20). These events are the best way to acclimate to life as a Shark. Your attendance is required. UNDERSTAND YOUR STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE OPTIONS You will automatically be enrolled in the NSU Student Medical Insurance Plan unless you submit a waiver by September 1. Read more about your options and find the online waiver at nova.edu/bursar/health-insurance. Contact the Student Health Insurance Department at (954) 262-4060 for questions about NSU health insurance. 8. COMPLETE YOUR F-1 CHECK IN After you arrive to campus, work with our Office of International Affairs to submit the required documents in one PDF to complete your F-1 check in as soon as possible. The Office of International Affairs will explain this process during International Student Orientation, but you can also email at intl@nova.edu with any questions. 9. PAYMENT PLANS NSU offers a payment plan to help you manage your semester tuition costs through monthly payments. The semester before classes begin, you can apply for a payment plan. Learn more about the payment plan application process at nova.edu/paymentplans. AFTER SUBMITTING YOUR ENROLLMENT DEPOSIT. 1. ACTIVATE YOUR SHARKLINK ACCOUNT SharkLink is your official portal for information and is home to your NSU email. Financial aid, campus housing, and undergraduate advising will send important updates to your NSU email. This is also where you will review your financial aid award and access all other student account information. Activate at nova.edu/resources/nsuidentity then log in to SharkLink at nova.edu/sharklink. Call SharkIT Services at (954) 262-4357 for technical support. 2. APPLY FOR PREMIER PROGRAMS & ATTEND SHARK PREVIEW WEEKEND To be considered for a Premier Program, you need to submit a supplemental application and interview during our enhanced admitted student event, Shark Preview Weekend. Apply for a Premier Program at nova.edu/premierprograms. 1. OBTAIN YOUR I-20 & APPLY FOR YOUR F-1 VISA Your I-20 is the document you will need to be able to apply for an F-1 student visa. Get started on this process at nova.edu/internationalaffairs/admitted. You may contact the Office of International Affairs at intl@nova.edu with any questions. 2. APPLY FOR HOUSING Submit your housing contract and $500 housing deposit at nova.edu/housing by May 1. Contact the Office of University Housing at (954) 262-7052 or housing@nova.edu for questions about living on campus. Please note, student immunization records must be submitted through CastleBranch prior to move-in at portal.castlebranch.com/vj29. CastleBranch only accepts immunization records provided in English. 3. COMPLETE THREE STEPS TO CLASS REGISTRATION The Center for Academic and Professional Success (CAPS) will be your go-to for course selection and class registration. Starting in late spring, you will receive communication notifying you when it’s time to begin the course registration process. Please note, in order to begin the registration process, you must submit your enrollment deposit. Please complete these three steps below. Visit nova.edu/caps for more information. BEFORE YOUR ENROLLMENT DEPOSIT. DON’T FORGET. CONFIRM YOUR ENROLLMENT. Submitting your $200 nonrefundable enrollment deposit saves your seat in our incoming class. Please submit your deposit at nova.edu/deposit as soon as you are ready. Then find all your next steps for admitted international students online at nova.edu/internationalaffairs/admitted. STEP ONE: COMPLETE THE ONLINE NEW STUDENT CANVAS COURSE All new students must complete the online New Student Canvas course. This couse is mandatory. This self-paced, online course is available on your SharkLink account at sharklink.nova.edu. Upon completion, you will be provided with dates to register for your group advising session. STEP TWO: SIGN-UP FOR GROUP ADVISING REGISTRATION SESSION After completing the New Student Canvas course and passing a short quiz, you must register for a group advising session with a CAPS Advisor. Mark your calendar with your confirmed session date. STEP THREE: ATTEND GROUP ADVISING REGISTRATION SESSION On the day of your group advising session, please be sure you have access to a computer in a quiet location to facilitate course registration successfully. After attending your group advising session, you will be registered for your first semester as an NSU Shark! Questions?
