46 Describe a Memorable Mentorship Moment. STUDENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT’S 64 Shark Bait As an intern and researcher at MIMIT Health in Chicago, Illinois, I delved into the world of digital health and patient engagement. A patient approached me with a smile and thanked me for my work on improving the patient experience. I was taken aback by the gratitude in her voice, and it dawned on me that my work had a tangible impact on her life. It was a surreal feeling to witness the power of technology to transform the way we practice health care.” MORISH SHAH Class of 2023 Major: Public Health Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine ‘‘ We asked. Students from the President’s 64 answered. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I developed an interest in public health. I sought opportunities that paralleled my interests and came across an independent study with Dr. Bita Sabripour, an optometrist based in Plantation, Florida. Aside from the great clinical experience, I had the privilege to volunteer with her nonprofit organization, See Your Future, and work with survivors of human trafficking. Dr. Bita’s bedside manner, her ability to break language barriers, and her quality-of-life focus made a significant impression on me and strengthened my resolve to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable populations.” KUNAL VANI Class of 2023 Major: Biology Minor: Public Health Halmos College of Arts and Sciences ‘‘ I will never forget being offered a clinical working position with my childhood pediatrician Linda Colon, M.D. Dr. Colon became my mentor as she guided me through patient cases, provided me with career advice, and advocated for the importance of a holistic approach to medicine. In a month’s time, I was overjoyed to learn that Dr. Colon wanted me on her team as a medical assistant. I spent the next two years working alongside her. She equipped me to become the physician I aspire to be.” DANIELLE GONZALEZ Class of 2023 Major: Biology Minors: Pre-Health, Psychology, and Spanish Halmos College of Arts and Sciences ‘‘
