NSU Mako Magazine Fall 2023

26 ACCREDITATION NSU MD and NSU Business both received professional accreditation confirmation. NSU’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine became the nation’s newest—and Florida’s eighth—fully accredited M.D. college during the February meeting of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The college was also accepted into the prestigious Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS), which advocates for humanism through a variety of activities for students and health care professionals. NSU’s H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship earned its accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. Currents In the Round COMMERCIAL SUCCESS Undergraduates studying criminal justice at NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice participate in sociodrama programs and simulation exercises among other experiential learning opportunities. Drama techniques bridge the gap between theory and practice and focus on real-world criminal justice content and mock trial methodologies. This unique skills set, honed by NSU professor Grace Telesco, Ph.D., a retired New York City police lieutenant, made NSU criminal justice students the perfect partners to help film a commercial for the Davie Police Department. NSU students worked in all stages of the creation—from preproduction planning and scheduling to sound, lighting, drone flying, and cameo acting during production, as well as postproduction activities.
