Dr. Pallavi Patel School of Rehabilitative Sciences (PSRS)—Department of Occupational Therapy 2025–2026 336 mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister, brother, grandparent, son, or daughter); 10 severe acute or contagious illness of the student or a household dependent. Military duty may also be considered an excused absence. The program director may approve additional circumstances as an excused absence at their discretion. Students will be allowed to complete missed graded work (assignments/exams) when the absence is excused, unless otherwise specified by the course instructor and/or it requires psychomotor performance as criteria for passing (e.g., interventions courses in which demonstrative skills are required). Documentation is required for all excused absences in advance where possible, however, no later than 48 hours after the absence. The documentation for the excused absence should be submitted to the program director. Not Excused: If a student is absent for any other reason than described above, it will not be considered an excused absence, and they will not be able to make up any graded assignment or exam that occurred during their absence. A pattern of repeated absences excused and/or unexcused may lead to the student being placed on probation, referral to the CSP, and ultimately dismissal from the program. Frequent absences could result in a notice of unprofessional behavior (NUB) based on the percentage of courses missed. Face-to-Face Platform: The NSU Fort Lauderdale O.T.D. program is a face-to-face program. Students are expected to attend all classes. If a student misses a class, the student will need to contact the instructor with a plan for learning the material. Virtual attendance is only permitted under rare circumstances and must be approved by the program director at least 24 hours prior to class. Not more than 20 percent of class meetings (excused and/or unexcused) may be missed during a given semester. At the discretion of the faculty member(s), a student whose absences exceed 20 percent of scheduled class meetings for the semester may receive a grade of F for the course. See process for course failure. Tardiness: Being on time is a professional expectation of the program. Any student arriving after the scheduled class time is tardy. If a student is more than 30 minutes late without prior notification or communication, tardiness will be considered an unexcused absence. The first episode of tardiness without communication will result in a warning. The second episode of tardiness with or without communication will result in a referral to the student’s advisor. The third episode and any subsequent episodes of tardiness with or without communication will result in an NUB that may lead to a referral to the CSP. Submission of Assignments Each course syllabus includes course-specific requirements and submission deadlines. Any assignment submitted after the assignment deadline will be subject to the consequences specified by the course instructor(s) and may affect the assignment grade and/or the final class grade as specified in the course syllabus. Assignment Resubmission The course instructor has the discretion to provide the students with the opportunity to resubmit a failed assignment with revisions as indicated and within the timeline specified by the course instructor.
