Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM)—Department of Nutrition 2025–2026 250 student and preceptor). If resolution of the concern is not achieved, the student may take the concern to the next level (i.e., student, faculty, and director; or student, preceptor, and clinical coordinator). The program director is available in person or via phone. The student may email the program director to schedule an appointment. If the concern is not resolved through the program director, the student may escalate the issue to the chair of the nutrition program. If it remains unresolved, the next step is to bring the concern to the executive asssociate dean of Undergraduate, Graduate, Technology, and Community Education, followed by the dean of the KPCOM. The program maintains a record of student complaints for a period of seven years, including the resolution of complaints. Any written complaints related to program noncompliance with ACEND accreditation standards, which cannot be resolved by the program, may be elevated to ACEND after all other options with the program and organization have been exhausted. L. Nutrition Practicums for Supervised Practice Students complete supervised practice (SP) under the direction of faculty members and qualified preceptors at training sites. Therefore, SP practicums must be completed within the registered course and semester that the practicum course is scheduled. Students placed on a leave of absence or administrative break in enrollment will work with the course director, under related policies, to fulfill the SP outstanding requirements for the course and/or program. Faculty members have the right to alter a practice experience or remove the student from the experience if the student’s performance is unsatisfactory. During SP practicums, students are there for learning experiences and may not be used to replace site employees. Students may work alongside employees or provide relief duties as part of the structured assignments during a rotation. Hours completed at practicum sites are strictly related to the required coursework. Students are not permitted to complete SP hours at their place of employment, unless approved by the practicum coordinator. If a student is completing SP hours at a facility in which they are employed, paid work hours cannot count toward completion of the SP. The program will not be involved with the potential for compensation to students. Any violations of this policy may be cause for dismissal from the program or such a change is warranted by other circumstances. On occasion, students may complete a supervised practice rotation at a facility that provides a training stipend or compensation. This matter is strictly handled by the facility, according to its internal policies. Students in good academic standing may have the opportunity to participate in elective rotations when other training requirements have been completed. These elective supervised learning experiences must be requested by the student and be approved by the program director. Elective rotations are subject to the same rules and procedures under the SP program. Information will be provided through approved practicum courses in the senior year of the program. Training hours will be logged and applied to the full SP hours completed by students. 1. Supervision Student practicums are arranged by the program at affiliated sites, which are approved by the program. External locations will be confirmed through a formal, written agreement signed by both parties, outlining roles and responsibilities. Students may also participate in training at NSU’s sites, such as
