Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM)—Graduate/Professional Degree Programs 2025–2026 206 • Ignore problems you’re having with the class, your technology, or the modality. Problems need to be addressed in a timely manner. Go to your professor’s office during office hours, see your adviser, reach out to OIIT or speak with your program director. D. Failure to Report a Violation Every member of the college community (e.g., students, administrators, and faculty employees) has the duty to file a complaint with the SPAC whenever it is felt a substantial violation of the code has occurred. Failure to report a violation of the code is itself a violation. All members of the college community have an affirmative duty to participate in the inquiry or investigative complaint process. E. Illegal, Inappropriate, and Unprofessional Behavior No student shall display disorderly conduct; public intoxication; or lewd, indecent, or obscene behavior on the campus or at any college-sponsored or college-supervised function or event. No student shall intentionally or recklessly endanger or threaten the mental or physical health or well-being of any other member of the college community or any visitor to the campus. Students who exhibit illegal, inappropriate, or unprofessional behavior will be referred to the SPAC and/or proper authorities for disciplinary action and may be subject to dismissal. F. Authenticity/Plagiarism Academic integrity is highly valued by the faculty and program who take a firm stand on submitting original work. Acts of plagiarism, whether intentional or accidental, are subject to disciplinary action as a violation of academic integrity. A student who breaches the code of conduct may receive academic penalties up to, and including, dismissal from the program. Student work submitted to courses in each program will be screened for similarity scores. Copying one’s own personal work from another class or from the same course, as well as sharing materials between students for individual assignments are forms of plagiarism. Student’s use of generative artificial intelligence (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, DALL-E, Midjourney, etc.) or similar resources on any coursework or academic assessments without prior permission, or the use of these resources in any way that violates the academic standards of NSU and/or a student’s academic program, is expressly prohibited (see NSU Code of Student Conduct and Academic Responsibility section earlier in this handbook). G. Drug Screening Policy Drug Testing Policy—The KPCOM recognizes that substance abuse is a career and life-threatening problem and encourages students to seek help in overcoming addiction. Students are encouraged to reach out to the KPCOM Office of Student Affairs for help in seeking services for drug and alcohol counseling or contact any of the behavioral health resources available to KPCOM students. Any student may be required to submit to drug and/or alcohol testing based upon what the faculty members and administration consider to be reasonable grounds to suspect drug or alcohol use, including, but not limited to • direct observation of drug or alcohol use or possession
