Clinical Rotation Grading a. Preceptor Requirements Only physicians who hold current medical license and who are AOA or ABMS board-certified or boardeligible in the specialty being taught may serve as physician faculty/rotation preceptors in the patient care environment. M3 students are responsible for notifying the Office of Clinical Education at the start of each core rotation—within one business day—who their preceptor of record is for that rotation. Failure to do so may result in the student not receiving credit for the rotation and having to repeat the rotation, which may delay transitioning to the M4 year or graduation. M4 students must notify the Office of Clinical Education, at least 30 days prior to the start of any elective rotation, so that preceptor’s credentials can be verified. For those locations who do not assign a faculty preceptor until the start of the rotation, students must still notify the Office of Clinical Education, at least 30 days prior to the start of any elective rotation, of the rotation site and include when the actual preceptor will be assigned. In these instances, students must notify the Office of Clinical Education of the actual rotation preceptor within one business day of the start of the rotation. Failure to do any of the above may result in the student not receiving credit for the rotation and having to repeat the rotation, which may delay graduation.
