Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM)—Osteopathic Medicine Program 2025–2026 120 Any student traveling for KPCOM purposes must abide by the Instructions for Student Travel for KPCOM, available from the Office of Student Affairs. For approved travel to be paid for by NSU, all required documentation must be submitted more than eight weeks prior to the departure date. Failure to do so and/or failure to follow the instructions will result in the student not being reimbursed for travel expenses, including airfare, hotel, meals, etc. Funding from KPCOM does not guarantee students will receive excused absences from any mandatory course meetings or examinations. 8. Tuition Payment Late tuition payments or failure to make arrangements to pay tuition will result in a hold being placed on the student’s records, which results in the student being unable to register for courses. It may result in the student being removed from class and/or clinical rotations. Shadowing A student must be in good academic standing to participate in shadowing opportunities. Shadowing is not permitted while a student is on an Administrative Break in Enrollment (ABE). The KPCOM provides opportunities for physician shadowing during the M1 and M2 years in the Early Clinical Preceptor Elective (ECPE) courses. Students in all class years of study (M1–M4) who choose to shadow physicians outside of the KPCOM curriculum • may not identify themselves as students in the KPCOM academic program • may not wear their white coats, ID badges, or anything else identifying them as KPCOM students • will not be covered by NSU/KPCOM’s professional liability (malpractice) insurance during their shadowing B. Graduation 1. Requirements A student will be held accountable to the graduation requirements specified in this student handbook based on the year of matriculation into the KPCOM, unless the change is required by the COCA and is required as part of the KPCOM’s continued accreditation. Therefore, graduation requirements may change from the date of matriculation. It is the student’s responsibility to keep abreast of the current policies and procedures of NSU and KPCOM. KPCOM considers the American Osteopathic Association Seven Core Competencies as its core competencies. The course of instruction and all academic requirements for the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine are directly tied to these core competencies. Course and lecture objectives are
