The financial ability of applicants to complete their training at the college is important because of the limited number of positions available in each class. Applicants should have specific plans for financing four years of medical education, including tuition, living expenses, books, equipment, clinical rotation, travel, and miscellaneous expenses. Schedule of Application for Admission Cycle June—Application cycle for the next academic year begins. Inquiries are invited by NSU MD, and the AMCAS forms are made available. July—Credentials sent to the AMCAS are processed, and applicant records are forwarded to NSU MD. A supplemental application is then sent to the applicant. When the supplemental application is completed and returned, and when recommendations are received, the completed application is evaluated for interview. September—Personal interviews start. October 31—Deadline for AMCAS applications for the next academic year. November 30—Deadline for NSU MD supplemental applications. Technology Requirements During each student’s tenure at NSU MD, the college will provide the student with an Apple iPad® with a minimum of 64 gigabytes (GB) of memory. Academics No Transfer of Credit Given the intensive curriculum at NSU MD, which is founded upon problem-based learning and devoted to integrated, self-directed learning and discovery to develop multiple competencies, this is not likely to be possible. Therefore, the college will not accept transferring or visiting students at this time. There is no timeline for when or if this policy will be modified. Course of Study NSU MD has a dedicated faculty; strong affiliations with medical centers, hospitals, and health care systems; and a mission to educate the finest physician-leaders possible. Physicians do not work in a vacuum, but rather in a health care team, and NSU MD promotes interprofessional cooperation through the curriculum. Students also share teaching faculty members for some disciplines, as well as campus facilities, with NSU’s osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, dental, optometry, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, public health, nursing, and medical science students. This proximity to colleagues from other professions promotes collegiality. M.D. Program Policy on Immunizations The immunizations required for NSU MD medical students are based on the current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for health care personnel. Before matriculating, every NSU MD student is required to have an immunization for, or show evidence of immunity to, the diseases described below. The following immunizations are mandatory for the NSU MD medical students: 1. MMR—this requirement is only satisfied by submitting either a. measles IgG, mumps IgG, and rubella IgG titer showing immunity OR b. documentation of two separate MMR vaccinations. 2. Varicella—this requirement is only satisfied by submitting a. varicella IgG titer showing immunity OR b. documentation of complete varicella series NOTE: Having a history of chicken pox DOES NOT satisfy the requirement.
