NSU HPD Catalog 2023-2024

576 Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine—M.D. Program The following steps are necessary to the primary application process. 1. T he applicant must submit the following materials to the AMCAS by January 31: • completed AMCAS application • o fficial transcripts from the registrars of all colleges or universities attended, mailed directly to the AMCAS by the college or university • M CAT scores (must be no more than three years old prior to the application cycle) 2. The applicant must submit the following to the college by February 28: • a secondary application, which will be sent to the applicant by the college upon receipt of the AMCAS application • a nonrefundable application fee of $50 • three letters of recommendation via the AMCAS Letters Service (if not included in the initial application) • At least one of the letters should be from a professor who has taught the applicant in a math or science course, and who can adequately speak to both the applicant’s academic readiness and personal suitability for the pursuit and practice of medicine. • The remaining letters can come from professors, advisers, clinical research coordinators or preceptors, supervisors, coaches, mentors, or personal and professional colleagues. • Although applicants are granted wide-ranging discretion in selecting evaluators, NSU MD strongly advises that they choose writers who know them well and can speak honestly and knowledgeably as to their character and fitness for entering the field of medicine. (It’s best to avoid recommendation letters from close relatives and/ or family friends.) • If the applicant’s premedical advising office provides a committee letter compiling feedback from multiple sources, this letter will suffice to satisfy the applicant’s letter requirement. All evaluations must be submitted via the AMCAS. • These letters of evaluation must be received before the applicant will be invited to complete the secondary application. Once the secondary application is returned to NSU MD, the application is considered complete and ready for review. A personal interview is a part of the admission process; however, being interviewed is not a guarantee of admission. Not all applicants will be granted an interview. Those selected for an interview will be notified of the date and time of such interview by the college’s Office of Admissions and Student Affairs. Notice of acceptance will be on a rolling or periodic schedule; therefore, early completion of the application is in the best interest of the applicant, because of the limited number of spaces available in each class. After acceptance, final and official documents and requirements must be received by the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs before the first day of orientation to the program. The college will provide accepted students with a detailed schedule of due dates for all documents and requirements. If these final and official documents are not received, other requirements are not met by that time, or students are not present at the start of orientation, they forfeit their places in the class. At that point, applicants from the wait-list will be offered those positions in the class. Financial aid will not be disbursed until the student has been fully admitted as a regular student (all admissions requirements have been approved by the program office).
