Student Background The Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) programs have a responsibility to the public to assure that graduates can become fully competent and caring physical therapists, capable of providing benefit and doing no harm. Individuals admitted and retained in these programs must possess the intelligence and comprehension abilities, behavior, professional abilities, and physical and functional abilities necessary to practice physical therapy. To this end, all professional D.P.T. students must meet the requirements outlined in the Essential Functions/Technical Standards section of the D.P.T. program website (healthsciences.nova.edu/pt/dpt). Policy The Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) Programs at Nova Southeastern University select applicants who have the ability to become competent physical therapists. The physical therapy programs’ curriculum adheres to the standards and guidelines of the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association. Students admitted to the D.P.T. programs are required to be able to perform the technical standards/essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation to successfully complete the requirements for the D.P.T. degree. Students with disabilities may inquire about reasonable accommodations through NSU’s Office of Student Disabilities (nova.edu /disabilityservices) and in accordance with the provisions of the NSU Student Handbook. Students may be dismissed from the D.P.T. program if they cannot perform the technical standards/ essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Students are required to notify the program of any changes in their ability to perform the technical standards/essential functions. The D.P.T. programs are committed to the principle of equal opportunity. Application Procedures Both Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy programs participate in the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (PTCAS). To apply, follow the procedures below. 1. Complete the online PTCAS application at ptcas.liaisoncas.com. PTCAS applications open on July 15 and close on December 15. All applicants to the Professional D.P.T. program must apply online. Refer to the PTCAS website for each program’s application deadline. 2. Send all official transcripts to PTCAS. Ensure official transcripts are mailed directly to PTCAS from the registrar’s office of each graduate and undergraduate institution attended. PTCAS P.O.
