Health Professions Division | Students Entering 2021

2 | M.D. Program MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN Much like the technology giants in Silicon Valley, NSU’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD) has a start- up mentality. As a new medical school based in the heart of South Florida, NSU MD has the benefit of starting something unique and unencumbered. Our partners, funding, and the health care climate drive the challenges we set out to face. Together with influential community leaders, innovative faculty members, renowned clinical researchers, founding students, and world-class community physicians, we are designing a medical enterprise customized for the specific and dynamic needs of the community in which we all live and work. Our goal is to develop caring, compassion- ate, and competent physician leaders. We seek self-starters with a drive to not only earn a medical degree, but to lead in their chosen areas of medicine. Our innovative faculty members are actively creating and refining a forward-thinking, case- and problem-based curriculum built to develop doctors who can adapt to the changing health care landscape of the 21st century. With a new HCA hospital under con- struction and a state-of-the-art research complex—all within a short walk of our classrooms—our students will gain early immersion experiences in real-world set- tings. By exposing them to real patients, real clinical settings, and real research well before medical students at many other schools, they will have an edge when competing for coveted residencies. As part of NSU’s Health Professions Division, which includes seven other health-related colleges, our students will have an opportunity to collaborate with students pursuing careers in areas such as pharmacy, nursing, optometry, dental medicine, and physical therapy. They will be able to learn about the complex, interrelated fields of health care—all making them more successful in the field of medicine. If you’re inspired to embrace innova- tion, collaboration, and the challenge of learning how to think like a world-class researcher and physician, you’ll feel right at home at NSU MD. How would you like to shape the future of medicine? Johannes W. Vieweg, M.D., FACS Founding Dean Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine
