With the support of grant funding from the National Institutes of Health, Mount Sinai is a leader in developing new treatment options for cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and much more. In addition, Mount Sinai is the only hospital in South Florida to administer an adult community clinical oncology program, placing our medical center among the nation’s foremost can- cer research institutions. Spearheaded by the National Cancer Institute, this pro- gram gives our patients continued access to cutting-edge clinical trials and lifesaving treatment options years before they become widely available. The Mount Sinai Heart Institute, a partnership with New York’s elite Columbia Univer- sity, is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a high-performing heart hos- pital and is the most active cardiac program in South Florida. Mount Sinai has the best cardiac surgery survival rate in Florida among hospitals that perform the highest volume of complex cardiac procedures.* In addition, Mount Sinai has the best heart attack survival rate in the state, and patients enjoy the shortest recovery time for cardiac surgery in Miami-Dade County. Mount Sinai is consistently recognized with national awards and prestigious accreditations. The Harvey R. Chaplin Family Stroke and Chest Pain Center is among a select few certified comprehensive stroke centers in Florida and an ac- credited chest pain center. The American Stroke Association (ASA) has recog- nized our system-wide initiatives by presenting the hospital with its Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for stroke care—the highest recognition given by the ASA. In addition, the Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only on- cology program in Florida to receive the Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award three consecutive times, and it is the first with an accredited radiation oncology program in South Florida.
