Dental Medicine Predoctoral Handbook 2025-2026

College of Dental Medicine (CDM)—Predoctoral Program 2025–2026 120 5. Makeup Examinations It is expected that all students take examinations, quizzes, and other required assignments at the scheduled date and time. Makeup examinations and quizzes for excused absences will be offered to students who have submitted the appropriate documentation and have received approval by Office for Admissions, Student Affairs and Services, and/or the Office for Academic Affairs. For each student, no more than three makeup examinations in the D.M.D. program will be allowed during a given semester. If more than three makeup examinations are requested, the student will be required to provide official documentation, as determined by the D.M.D. program, that supports continuation in the D.M.D. curriculum or warrants an administrative break in enrollment. Each student will be required to take a makeup examination during the following 10 business days from the scheduled exam (excluding official school holidays and weekends). Failure to take a scheduled makeup exam within this time frame will result in a grade of 0 (zero) for that missed exam. For didactic courses, makeup examinations may be of any format/exam type, at the discretion of the course director, and to test the student on the same topics as the missed exam. For clinical courses, makeup examinations will consist of an appropriate clinical test format selected by the course director and will be treated the same as any other examination in terms of grading. The date, time, and location of all makeup examinations will be determined by the course director. 6. Transcript Notations Designations that may appear on a student’s official transcript include the following: Numerical grade in the scale of 0–100 Letter Grades A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, F (refer to scale in prior section) C(E) F ailed course remediated successfully by reexamination (for courses graded on a alpha letter grade basis) RP Remediation Pass P Pass F Fail PH Pass with Honors PR Progress—In a continuum course NPR No Progress—In a continuum course I Incomplete W Withdrawal AU Audit Grades of F (failure) or I (incomplete) require special action, as noted previously in this student handbook. To graduate, students must complete and pass all courses. Failing grades will be included in calculating the GPA for that semester and the cumulative GPA. If a numerical graded or P/F course is failed and subsequently passed after remediation and reexamination, a grade of P (the highest possible course grade on reexamination) indicates that the course was passed after successful remediation. The reexamination grade of C will be used to calculate all subsequent GPAs. For courses in which students are graded on the alpha letter system, the highest grade upon successful remediation is a C(E).
