Dental Medicine Predoctoral Handbook 2025-2026

College of Dental Medicine (CDM)—Predoctoral Program 2025–2026 109 4. Course and Instructor Evaluations Each student has a professional responsibility to provide constructive evaluation for courses and instructors in the curriculum. This responsibility will be met by participation in course evaluations that are routinely administered by the CDM. The college expects each student to sincerely accept this responsibility and obligation in a constructive manner so that optimal feedback can be provided. This input will facilitate student welfare by promoting changes that will improve the educational effectiveness of the curriculum, as well as assist faculty members by providing constructive input to help them improve their teaching strategies. 5. Library Skills Policy All students must be able to identify and locate materials in the library as needed or required by course instructors. Students must be familiar with the leading dental journals and be able to research specific topics related to dental medicine by using standard bibliographies and indexes. NSU CDM, in cooperation with the Martin and Gail Press Library staff members, includes courses in the academic program that provide students with information on conducting online electronic searches in healthcare databases and other related topics. 6. National Board Dental Examinations The purpose of the National Board Dental Examinations is to assist state boards in determining qualifications of dentists who seek licensure to practice dentistry. Although written examinations may be developed at the local level, most licensing boards use the National Board Dental Examinations (Parts I and II, INBDE, Integrated National Board Dental Examination) as a major portion of their written examination requirements. NSU’s CDM and the National Board of Dental Examiners require that a student must be in good academic standing in the college to take the Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE). (See the section on Academic Standing in this student handbook.) Fourth-year students in good academic standing must challenge the INBDE between May 1 and January 31. International dental program students are required to pass the INBDE. Students must pass the CDM’s designated exam, when applicable, to be permitted to treat patients and/or advance to the D3 year and to graduate from the CDM. Students will have until August 31 of the D3 year to comply, or they may be dismissed from the CDM. The CDM requires that students must challenge the INBDE to be given the dean’s approval to apply to take the early (predegree conferral) Florida State Dental Board Examination and/or other state or regional licensure examinations. Students who are interested in acquiring a license to practice dentistry are advised to contact that state board/ regional board to determine its requirements, as it pertains to INBDE, for taking a licensing examination. 7. State/Regional Board Examinations State/regional board exams are usually taken by students during their final year in dental school in proximity to graduation. The CDM and state/regional boards generally require that a student must be in good academic standing (see the section on Academic Standing in this student handbook) and scheduled to graduate in a timely manner to take state or regional board examinations.
