Nova Southeastern University | 25 POSTDOCTORAL PROGRAMS PROGRAMS AND COURSES, continued ADVANCED EDUCATION IN GENERAL DENTISTRY (AEGD) Highlights • The Department of Restorative Sciences and Public Health Dentistry offers an accredited, one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD 1) residency program with an optional second year (AEGD 2). • The didactic portion of the program includes a core science curriculum designed to provide all postdoctoral students with an advanced interdisciplinary education and a detailed general practice curriculum for AEGD residents. • The AEGD 2 program includes a didactic and clinical curriculum beyond the scope of practice of the AEGD 1 program. • Off-site rotations are included to expand the range of experiences available. Residents’ knowledge and patient-management skills are gained through an advanced, multidisciplinary approach, working primarily with NSU-CDM faculty members, as well as additional resources in NSU and at affiliated programs and sites. • The program is tuition based and offers no stipend; however, professional liability insurance is provided. Information about occupations related to this certificate program and length of the program can be found at dental.nova.edu/aegd/tuition.html. POSTDOCTORAL ENDODONTICS Highlights • This 24-month certificate program is designed to fulfill the specialty certification of the American Board of Endodontics. • Clinical experience is combined with didactic instruction. • Joint conferences with other disciplines—such as periodontics, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, otolaryngology, and neurology—provide a well-rounded basis to diagnose and treat conditions in the head and neck region. • This educational program includes a wide spectrum of historical, classical, and contemporary experiences supported by research and advanced technologies. The clinical portion of the program is technologically oriented, providing the student with modern concepts within the full scope of endodontic treatment, including rotary NiTi instrumentation, microscopes, electronic apex locators, guided tissue regeneration, ultrasonics, and use of digital radiography (including cone beam computed tomography). The didactic portion of the program includes a core curriculum designed to provide all postdoctoral students with a basic interdisciplinary education and a detailed endodontic curriculum that concentrates heavily on knowledge of the literature. Information about occupations related to this certificate program, program cost, and length of the program can be found at dental.nova.edu/endo/tuition.html.
