17 NSU CAHSS Dialogues Student Life Achievement Finalists NSU Student Government of the Year The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences has eight graduate departments. And, its Graduate Student Government Association (executive board shown on the cover) represents them all. CAHSS Graduate SGA is a catalyst for high-quality leadership programs and educational development opportunities. NSU Cocurricular Adviser of the Year Kara Erolin, Ph.D. , has been an assistant professor in the Department of Family Therapy since 2015. She is passionate about social justice and diversity issues and integrates this across teaching, clinical supervision, and scholarship/research. NSU Staff Person of the Year Kathleen Doyle came to NSU in April 2011 and works as an administrative assistant in the Department of Justice and Human Services. She thinks some of the things that make NSU special are its vision, leadership, and openness to new ideas in the ever- changing landscape of education. NSU Professor of the Year Molly J. Scanlon, Ph.D. , is an associate professor in the Department of Writing and Communication. She teaches first- year experience and college composition, as well as research methods and design for the department’s M.A. in Composition, Rhetoric, and Digital Media program. NSU Alumni of the Year Gwendolyn Smith, Ph.D. , graduated from CAHSS in 2013. She completed the doctoral program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution and has been conducting training and instructing courses with NSU since. NSU Executive of the Year Honggang Yang, Ph.D. , has served as NSU’s dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences since 1999. He received his Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of South Florida. Yang was awarded a STUEY in 2002 as Academic Dean of the Year. NSU Student of the Year—Overall Michelle Thomas-Maison is an international student from Trinidad and Tobago and a doctoral candidate in the Conflict Resolution Program. Thomas-Maison graduated from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad with a bachelor’s degree in social work, a distinction postgraduate diploma in mediation studies, and a master’s degree. The following were CAHSS finalists in the Student Life Achievement Awards, which were presented on March 27.
