72 1.1 Non-Discrimination . Marriage and Family Therapists provide professional assistance to persons without discrimination on the basis of race, age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability, gender, health status, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, and gender identity or relationship status. Professional/Ethical Conduct Students are expected to abide by the AAMFT Code of Ethics, conduct indicated in the Florida Statutes Chapter 491, conduct indicated in HIPAA, as well as the NSU Student Handbook. If at any time during a student’s program, the faculty is alerted to questions about a student’s conduct, a meeting will be scheduled with the Program Director and one other faculty. The program follows all guidelines from the NSU Student handbook. The results of the meeting will be documented along with recommendation for a remediation plan. If it is found that a student’s conduct fell outside those indicated in the above documents, the outcome of such a meeting could ultimately lead to immediate dismissal from the program. Courses Necessary for Licensure The following is a list of courses offered in our department that are necessary for licensure in the state of Florida as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. From this list, doctoral students may submit a request for Transfer of Credit for up to 21 credits toward their 78 required credits. The student must have passed with a grade “B” or better in each course. The courses students wish to transfer must have been completed within the past 7 years.  SFTD 5007: Research in Marital and Family Therapy  SFTD 5008: Introduction to Marital and Family Therapy: Counseling Theories and Techniques  SFTD 5009: Theories of Marital and Family Therapy  SFTD 5045: Group Psychotherapy  SFTD 5046: Human Development Across the Life Cycle  SFTD 5006: Introduction to Systems Theory  SFTD 5300: Legal, Ethical, and Professional Issues  SFTD 6520: Diversity and Psychosocial Issues  SFTD 7311: Human Sexuality and Gender  SFTD 7301: Assessment in Marital and Family Therapy  SFTD 7302: Personality Theories & Psychopathology  SFTD 5311: Substance Abuse/Addictions and Critical Issues in Systems Theory Requirements for Work in the On-site Clinic, Clinical Practicums Before entering Internal Practicum I, students are required to complete the following courses:  SFTD 5006: Introduction to Systems Theory   SFTD 5300: Legal, Ethical, and Professional Issues  SFTD 5008: Introduction to Marriage and Family Therapy All students must take and pass the following requirements within the first month of enrollment:  Two HIPAA certificate courses  Level two background check with photo badge  CITI course prior to conducting any research Students must also be familiar with the Practicum Handbook and Brief Therapy Institute Policies and Procedures, both available on the website.
