Admissions Pre-Arrival Guide - Fall 2020
ACADEMICS AND ADVISING. Each student is assigned a professional NSU academic advisor who will guide you through your academic career. Advising and registration is now open and will remain open throughout the summer. ADVISING/REGISTRATION PROCESS Academic Advisors provide confidential academic and developmental advising to ensure students receive the individual attention they need to succeed. All undergraduate students should contact an academic advisor before entering a program, registering for classes, changing their concentrations, or requesting transfer of credits. Academic advisors can also help students gain assistance from other NSU departments or other available resources. Visit nova.edu/ugadvising/new-student to get started. COURSE PLACEMENT, ENTRANCE, OR SKILL ASSESSMENT EXAMS Mathematics and composition course placement is based upon SAT/ACT/TOEFL scores or transfer credit. Academic Advisors provide information about prerequisites for courses, standardized tests, and challenge exams. FINAL OFFICIAL DOCUMENTATION - TEST SCORES AND TRANSCRIPTS Incoming students graduating from high school must submit official SAT or ACT scores if admitted using self-reported test scores. They must also submit an official high school transcript indicating a graduation date. Transfer students must submit all official college transcripts from previously attended institutions (and in some cases, official high school transcripts) showing all coursework completed. This is required for all incoming students in order to continue enrollment and to have any financial aid disbursed. Only official college transcripts are reviewed for award of transfer credit. AP, IB, DUAL ENROLLMENT, CAMBRIDGE EXAMINATIONS & MORE Students may be awarded transfer credit for Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examinations, or college credit earned while in high school. Credits awarded are based upon scores or grades earned. EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION AND LEARNING (ExEL) All incoming freshmen are required to take six units in Experiential Education and Learning, which includes the UNIV 1000 course. Units can be earned through study abroad, research with faculty, community service trips, internships, or as part of a course requirement. STUDENT ENROLLMENT AGREEMENT.
