Mako Hall: NSU’s newest residence hall for upperclassman, named after our beloved Razor, who happens to be a Mako shark. Miniaci: Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center has 495 seats and a mainstage where students and professional theater troupes display their talents N#: Your student ID number – memorize this number because you’ll be asked for it frequently Nova Alert: NSU’s emergency notification system OC: Oceanographic Center, located on Dania Beach about 25 minutes east of campus – home to all marine biology programs, faculty and research OIIT: Office of Innovation and Information Technology fixes laptop connectivity issues, connect your NSU email to your phone, and more – located in the library, and they also rent out laptops if yours is on the fritz One-Stop Shop: Take care of parking decals, financial aid, tuition payment and get your SharkCard here Outtakes: Convenience store in the University Center with extended hours – great place to grab a drink, snack, or even some grocery items and toiletries when you’re running low Pagoda: Hang-out/BBQ zone for residential and commuter students alike, right outside The Commons – campus organizations host many events here, so stop by and say hi when you see them UPP: University Park Plaza, future home of the NSU Hospital and Hotel, currently home to the NSU Emergency Room and nursing program and is located right off University Drive, just west of the main campus Payment Plan: An easy way to manage your tuition bill – an option to split your tuition bill into four easy payments over the course of a semester – apply through the financial aid office Peer Leader: urrent NSU Student that will be in your UNIV 1000 course who will help you with the transition from high school to college Publix/PubSub: Local grocery store which happens to have a really good sub sandwich station inside PVA: Performing and Visual Arts wing on the second floor of the University Center – home to the PVA Theatre, Black Box Theatre, and Gallery 217 RA: Also known as your Resident Assistant, a student just like you who lives down the hall in your residence hall – they are your go-to resource when you have a question about your home away from home, plus they make living on campus fun. RadioX: Student radio station – you could become a radio host here during your first year Razor: The name of NSU’s beloved mascot, who happens to be…you guessed it…a shark RecPlex: On-campus fitness center, complete with gym, rock wall, and pool Rolling Hills: Apartment-style, upperclassman residence hall west of University Drive – fun fact: before NSU acquired this building, it was a resort, and now students get to enjoy its resortstyle pool Rosenthal: Rosenthal Student Center, one of the first buildings on campus that used to hold our dining facilities, located right next to the University Center – home to SLCE, Radio X, ExEL and more SEA Board: Student Events and Activities Board, these amazing students plan many campus events, including Sharkapalooza, SEA Thursdays, concerts, Crunch Brunch and much more – usually there’s NSU swag and free food to enjoy SharkCard: This is your ID on campus, your meal card, library card, residence hall key, and more – carry with you at all times, you can also add money to it and use it off campus for meals in select restaurants Shark Fountain/Shark Circle: a campus landmark, the Shark Fountain is located right in front of the University Center inside the Shark Circle and features a breaching bronze shark Shark Shuttle: Campus shuttle service that provides transportation between buildings and a few, select off-campus locations – download the iShark app to track its route in real-time Sharkapalooza: The best (Shark) way to kick off the school year – NSU’s annual student organization fair at the beginning of the year, come find your fit while enjoying local food vendors to celebrate the year SharkFins: Weekly student email with important happenings around campus SharkLink:Your online portal to access your NSU email, course registration, financial aid, billing and more SLCE (pronounced slice): The Office of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement is your go-to office for community service and leadershipbased education opportunities – Sharks and Service trips are a fun, inspiring way to give back SOS: Sharks on the Scene take you off campus for day adventures to Disney, Universal Studios, the Keys, and so much more, all at a discounted price – if you’re bored in South Florida, you’re not doing it right Student Media: Home of NSU’s studentrun media department, including Radio X (radio station), The Current (newspaper), and SUTV (Sharks United TV) – all of which you can join as soon as you get to campus Terry Building: A.k.a., the Health Professions Division, located on the west side of campus, home to the graduate and professional programs in the health sciences The Quad: The library quad, or the large green patch of grass between the NSU bookstore and the library – the best place to get a group outdoors for pickup game The U School: The Nova Southeastern University School is the private K-12 school located on campus The UC: Called by many names, the Don Taft University Center is your main hub for campus activities: where you eat, laugh and hang out, study, cheer on the Sharks, and work out UC Spine: The long corridor inside the University Center below the Guy Harvey Shark Mural, figuratively representing the spine of a shark WOW: To welcome you to campus, the first few weeks of class, Weeks of Welcome, are jam-packed with activities to help you get out and meet new people 16
