35 C ollege of H ealth C are S ciences Daryan Rizi Garcia , a medical sonography major, is from West Palm Beach, Florida. She was a member in the Pan Student Government Association and served as the president of the Medical Sonography Student Government Association from 2015 to 2016. She presented her artwork and academic research titled “If I Only had a Heart: Creating a Cardiovascular Workbook for Future Healthcare Professionals” at the regional Human Anatomy and Physiology Society conference and the Health Professions Educational Research Symposium under the guidance of Cheryl Purvis, Ph.D. Garcia and Purvis received approval to display her artwork and discuss their academic research in a poster presentation at the National Human Anatomy and Physiology Society in 2017. Recently, she began working with Jorge Han, M.D., to develop a medical sonography international outreach program to serve rural communities. Garcia has volunteered for the American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, the Caridad Center, and Habitat for Humanity. Following graduation, Garcia plans to begin her career as a medical sonographer. In 2018, she plans to seek a master’s degree in Health Administration. She also intends to use her knowledge and training as a medical sonographer to provide rural communities with free ultrasound examinations as well as other necessities. Leante Antonique Williamson , a respiratory therapy major, is from Long Island, Bahamas, and has been a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society since 2016. She attended the Florida Society for Respiratory Care conference in both 2016 and 2017 and was a participant in the Florida State Student Sputum Bowl competition in 2017 with the support of Lisa Farach, M.S., and Jennifer Benscik, M.H.A. Williamson participated at the T. Leroy Jefferson Medical Society annual Health and Science Career Symposium in 2016 and 2017. She also participated at the Hendry Health Fair in 2016 and 2017, performing pulmonary function tests for attendees. She made the Dean’s List for two semesters and the Chancellor’s List for four semesters. Williamson plans to obtain an M.B.A. in Health Care Management and, ultimately, a doctorate in health sciences.
