2017 UG Commencement Program
33 Jennys Maria Nunez , a business administration major, is from Barranquilla, Colombia, but grew up in Miami, Florida. She is a member of the Tau Sigma National Honor Society and a U. S. Army veteran. In 2013, she served overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom, providing logistical support to combat zones. After serving six years in the Army National Guard, she joined the Air Force Reserve and continued her duties as a supply service technician. After fulfilling her obligations in the armed forces, Nunez joined the VA Hospital in Miami, where she continues helping her fellow veterans by striving for better health care for this population. In 2014, she volunteered for the Special Olympics and for the Miami Rescue Mission in 2016. Nunez one day hopes to own a business, participate in philanthropic activities, and inspire others to pursue their dreams. S tudent C ommencement S peaker Kenneth Allen Smith , an entry-level nursing major, is from Fort Myers, Florida. He has been a board-certified registered nurse in ambulatory care since 2014, a board-certified wound specialist since 2007, and a board-certified hyperbaric registered nurse since 2006. He works in Lee County, Florida, for Lee Health’s Ambulatory Adult Specialty Division as an ambulatory nurse manager. Smith is an active member of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing.
