31 H almos C ollege of N atural S ciences and O ceanography Bernardo J. Jordan , a double major in chemistry and biology with a minor in mathematics, is from Hollywood, Florida. He plans to pursue a doctorate in chemistry. He has been a member of the Delta Epsilon Iota Honor Society since 2015 and is a member of the TriBeta Biological Honor Society. In the summer of 2016, he participated in an internship at the University of California working under the supervision of Joseph O’ Conner, Ph.D., and with Ph.D. candidate, Kate Veccharelli. Jordan also conducted research under the guidance of Jose Ramos, Ph.D. From 2015 to 2016, he helped investigate the connection between changes in water ion levels and gene expression of marine animals under the guidance of Song Gao, Ph.D. He also assisted Paula Waiziry, Ph.D., in research of Gulf War illnesses. Jordan has been a member of the Chemistry Club, serving as treasurer from 2015 to 2016 and vice president since 2016. He worked as the supplemental instructor leader for the Fundamentals of Computer Programming Course, and was on the Dean’s List for four semesters in 2015–2016. Teodora M. Suciu , a mathematics major with minors in information assurance/security and business administration, is from Romania. She will be receiving a general citation in Honors for 2017 and has received several honors scholarships while attending NSU. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Honors Society from 2015 to 2017. In 2017, she presented “Mathematical Approach to Understanding Consumer Behavior” at the Undergraduate Student Symposium, and in 2016 she presented “The Impact of Gender Inequality on Earnings of Women in STEM Fields: Historical Evidence and Possible Solutions” at the Undergraduate Student Symposium; both under the guidance of Charles Harrington, Ph.D. Also in 2016, she presented “Mathematical Optimization and Applications” at the 2016 Mathematics Colloquium Series under the guidance of Eric Samansky, Ph.D. Suciu has been on the Dean’s List every semester since 2013 and has received the President’s Scholarship for four years. Suciu participated in several internships while a student at NSU, including working in finance at Sony Pictures Entertainment in 2016, an accounting internship at Budowsky & Budowsky CPA from 2015 to 2016, and an executive search intern at AnswerQUEST in 2015. She has also been a member of the Nomatics Club and the Association of Computing Machinery since 2013, and a member of the Economics and Finance Association since 2015. Suciu received the American Association of University Women Award in 2016 and came in first place in the Math Brain Bowl Competition in 2015. In January, she began working for the Florida Panthers hockey team as a database administrator. She hopes to travel to Spain and Romania this summer, continue working with the Florida Panthers, and begin work toward her M.B.A. in Business Intelligence/Analytics at NSU in the fall.
