2017 UG Commencement Program

29 Haley G. Hickey , a psychology major, is from Naples, Florida, and is a member of the Psi Chi Honor Society. She has worked for several years with Jonathan Banks, Ph.D., researching the effects of stress on cognitive functioning, primarily focusing on member and sustained attention. She presented some of this research at the 2016 Undergraduate Student Symposium. Hickey volunteers at Heartland Hospice and has participated in several NSU community events, including the summer STEM program, Christmas in July, and the Million Meal Pack. While a student as NSU, Hickey worked at Boat Rental Miami as an office manager. She was placed on the Dean’s List for four semesters, and plans to enroll in a master’s degree program in clinical psychology in the fall. Hickey hopes to eventually earn a doctorate and plans on working with individuals who have experienced prolonged, chronic-stress exposure including active- duty military, veterans, and first responders. C ollege of P sychology Ezana Assefa , a double major in behavioral neuroscience and biology, is from Orlando Florida. He is a current member of the TriBeta, Alpha Chi, and Phi Theta Kappa honor societies. He has been a member of the President’s 64 and vice president for the Neuroscience Club. Assefa assisted Jaime Tartar, Ph.D., with two years of academic research. He also worked as part of the front office staff for campus housing. He plans to enroll in a Ph.D. program in the fall.
