Reduce
:
Reducing is best! If you
don’t use it in the first place, you
are saving money and energy
and stopping pollution and waste.
Reuse
:
Reusing comes second.
Find new life for items that would
normally be thrown away. Even
just one second use helps reduce
what you need to buy again
Recycle:
Recycling is a distant
third to the first two. Recycling
requires fuel, energy, and water
consumption for transportation
and reprocessing. However, it is
still better than throwing items
away, only for them to end up in
a landfill.
In collaboration with the Project Management Office, the dated video
equipment was replaced with new, state-of-the-art High Definition video
production equipment. Some of the benefits of this upgrade include video
resolution of higher quality, less time ingesting footage into edit stations,
lighter and more mobile equipment, less time needed for processing video
leading to quicker service, battery-operated lighting equipment, and ability
to increase remote location productions. Ultimately, the upgrade allows
for industry standards to be practiced and implemented at NSU, increasing
the overall quality of video production services for NSU faculty and staff
members.
NSU is already reaping the benefits of this upgrade. On October 17, The
National Academy of Arts and Sciences nominated NSU’s Digital Media
Production department for two Emmy Awards for their work on a Smoking
Cessation Public Service Announcement (PSA) that aired on BECON TV. The
PSA was shot and edited with equipment acquired during the upgrade.
BECON TV airs in the tricounty area reaching 4.3 million households in
the community.
HD Video Project
February of this year, The Office of Innovation and Information
Technology’s Digital Media Production department and the Inno-
vation Zone embarked on a Capital Project to upgrade all video
production technology to High Definition (HD).
