Overview

Mission

The mission of Business and Academic Platforms is to provide excellent, reliable service to the NSU user community who rely on our administrative systems. Our goal is to proactively support, maintain, and enhance these systems to best serve our students, faculty, and staff.

The following teams support and maintain NSU's commercial software applications: Banner, Ariba, Canvas, GoToTraining, GoToMeeting, CaptureSpace, Recruit, SharePoint and Worflow, as well as ancillary integrated systems.

  • Ariba: The Ariba team supports NSU’s eProcurement, Sourcing, Travel, and Expense application. The team is responsible for end user support, application of system upgrades, maintenance of external integrations, development of new system enhancements, modifications to delivered functionality, and customization of reports and the user interface. The Ariba Taskforce guides continuous process improvement and system enhancements. 
  • Banner: The Banner team supports the university’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)/Student Information System (SIS) by customizing the application, performing programming enhancements, and creating new programming solutions that update or report from the Banner database. The Banner team is responsible for integrating the ERP/SIS with external third party systems and other in house software. The team coordinates upgrades with stakeholders, as well as other OIIT teams, and directly supports all the administrative departments that make use of the ERP/SIS, such as Enrollment and Student Services, Finance, Human Resources and Advancement. The team also develops and supports Banner workflows for the automation of business processes within Banner.
  • Canvas: Canvas from Instructure is a robust, intuitive learning management system (LMS) suitable for K-12 and higher education institutions. Canvas is designed to help users to educate or learn the way they want to. Communication between teacher and learner is given importance , making it effortless for both parties to smoothly collaborate on the learning process.

    Canvas learning platform offers core LMS functionality including the online grade books, testing, course authoring and integration with other teaching tools. Canvas offers mobile-ready teaching tools that can be added to bring new functionalities in the application. Canvas also offers native apps for iOS and Android devices, allowing instructors to view key information, share updates or send results from anywhere and at any time.

    Canvas is used across all NSU Colleges as well as the University School and the Mailman Segal Center for Human Development.
  • Collaboration and Media: The Collaboration and Media Team manages and provides support for the various platforms used to deliver synchronous and asynchronous digital content to students, faculty, and staff. The team works with the vendors to maintain and upgrade the system, as well as provide feedback that drives future enhancements to the various platforms. Current supported platforms include GoToTraining/GoToMeeting, and SharkMedia/CaptureSpace.
  • Recruit: The Recruit team supports the university’s CRM solution. The CRM is the university’s primary tool for all recruitment and admissions services. The team supports close to 600 internal system users and nearly 500,000 prospect records. The CRM is used to send out nearly 14 million communications per year to prospective undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The CRM is integrated with internal systems including Banner, Touchnet, imaging, lead management and external systems including StrikeIron and Salesforce. The CRM accepts application imports from Common Application, Royall Application, and other CAS vendors such as Liaison International.
  • SharePoint: SharePoint Technologies unit will leverage the tools and resources that Microsoft SharePoint technologies provides, by integrating members and teams to enrich communications and collaboration. Teams can and will rapidly engage students, employees and business units, through a robust and collaborative interaction, empowering the user the ability to share, create, and connect with University constituents.
  • Workflow: Utilize and leverage Banner Workflow electronic forms with other technologies, to track status, while providing transparency thereby replacing paper administration and logistics, streamlining mechanical and lengthy business processes.

    Some of the individual workflows completed include, EPAF Supervisor Change, SEAF, Affiliate/Contractor, Grade Change, Degree Conferral, Tuition Waiver, Termination of employment, PFT, Fixed Assets,  and Student Withdrawal.

Vision

Looking to the future, the department's aim is to identify creative ways to enhance our administrative systems so they are robust and user-friendly, in order to meet the university's evolving needs.
