Resetting Attempts in Blackboard

Issue Date: 12-15-2017

Occasionally you may need to reset a student’s Exam or Assignment to allow an additional attempt. Blackboard offers two options: Ignore Attempt and Clear attempt.

Ignore Attempt allows an additional attempt without deleting the previous submission and grades. This is a good option if you would like to review original submission. This action can be reverted.

Clear Attempt will delete the submission and grades completely. This action is final and cannot be reverted.

To ignore or clear an attempt follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Full Grade Center. Hover your mouse over the cell where the student's grade appears. Click the drop down arrow in the cell.

2. Click on View Grade Details.

Reset Attempt 1

3. Click Ignore Attempt OR Clear Attempt.

Reset Attempt 2

If you choose Ignore Attempt, you have the option to revert the action. Just click Do Not Ignore Attempt.

Reset Attempt 3

If you choose to Clear Attempt, a warning box will appear asking you to confirm the action. This action is final.
