Canvas announcements offer a quick and easy way to inform and remind students about upcoming due dates, events, and changes to the normal class schedule. Based on their communication preferences, students can get email or text message notifications that an announcement has been posted, and if they download the mobile app they can receive announcements on their mobile devices. Find information here about setting notification preferences. Students can even get announcements via an RSS feed.
Announcements are composed using the standard Rich Content Editor that is found throughout Canvas, which means that you can include images, audio, and video as a part of your announcement. In addition, you can provide links directly to course modules, course pages, assignments, discussions, quizzes or course files within the Announcement. This makes it simple for the student to find the item that your announcement is referencing.
Creating an Announcement is easy. Type a title for the announcement in the topic title field and . add content in the Rich Content Editor. Using the content selector add a link to a course area, a file or an image.
The three most recent announcements will appear at the top of the course homepage by default. This can be modified to show no announcements, as few as one and as many as fifteen. Check out this Canvas Guide for information on how to change the number of announcements shown. Announcements appear in reverse chronological order with the most recent announcement appearing on top and older announcements underneath.
Among other helpful features of announcements, you can schedule announcements to appear at a specified date and time, and if you have multiple sections of a course, you can send separate announcements to different sections of the course. There is also a setting to allow for replies to an announcement to field questions or comments from students about an announcement.
For information on creating an announcement consult this Canvas Guide – How do I add an announcement in a course?.
