Converting Narrated PowerPoints to MP4

Issue Date: 02-05-2016

Issue: Mac devices are unable to play audio from a PowerPoint presentation created on a Windows machine. Macs require a plug in that must be purchased by the user. To ensure students can hear the audio in your PowerPoints we suggest converting your PowerPoints to MP4s and linking them to your Blackboard course using SharkMedia.

MP4 or MPEG-4 is a video file format that will play on many modern day computing devices. The below steps will guide you in exporting a narrated presentation to an MP4 video file in PowerPoint 2013. The file can be added to Sharkmedia using the steps found HERE.

  1. Open the presentation in PowerPoint
  2. Click on File and select Export
  3. Click on Create a Video
  4. Click on the quality dropdown and select Internet Quality to give your file an appropriate resolution and file size.
  5. If you have voice overlays in your slides, make sure that you click on the subsequent dropdown box and select Recorded Timings and Narrations . Set your timing and when finished select Use Recorded Timings and Narrations.
  6. Click Create Video.
  7. Save you file making sure the that Save As Type is listed as MPEG-4.
  8. Click Save.   Note: Depending on the size of the file and the speed of your computer the converting process time may vary.
