NSU Spring Break Global Engagement Program 2020


As part of the Razor's Edge Global Scholars program, each year the Office of International Affairs offers an international Global Engagement trip during Spring Break.  The Spring Break Global Engagement Program is open to ALL NSU STUDENTS!

The Spring Break 2020 Global Engagement program will be in PERU!

Friday, February 28 - Sunday, March 8, 2020



Walking tour, museum visit, chocolate making, ceramics class, local markets and free time to explore.


Engage within the local Cusco community through service and promote NSU to local students.


Explore one of the Seven Wonders of the World & UNESCO Heritage Site - the Incan ruins of Machu Picchu.

Application & Participation Information

APPLICATION DEADLINE: 10/27/19 - Apply Now!

This program is open to all NSU students.  

NOTE:  Razor's Edge Global Scholars are not required to apply.

Application includes three sections:

  • Personal Information (Name, N#, Level of Study, Program/Major(s))
  • Confirmation of Understanding (Check boxes to confirm your understanding of the details of participating in this program)
- Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis.
- All applications will be processed by 10/28/19. Students must be able to pay $500 deposit by 10/31/19.
- Password for payment will be provided at time of acceptance.
- NOTE: Razor's Edge Global Scholars are not required to submit an application.

Pre-Departure, While Abroad & Re-Entry Requirements

There is no course credit for this program.  Students may receive one ExEL Travel Exploration Unit for their participation. All students participating in the program must complete the mandatory pre-departure, while abroad, and re-entry requirements.  Additional information will be provided at the time of acceptance.



  • Friday, February 28th - Shark Shuttle departs NSU at 10:30pm
  • Saturday, February 29th - Flight to Cusco departs Miami Airport at 1:49am; arrives in Cusco at 10:10am (short layover in Bogota), private coach to hotel. Group welcome dinner.
  • Sunday, March 1st - Walking tour of Cusco, followed by free time to explore.
  • Monday, March 2nd - First day of Service Learning - projects TBD. Afternoon visit to Choco Museum to learn how chocolate is made and make your own chocolate treat.
  • Tuesday, March 3rd - Visit EducationUSA to help Peruvian high schools students learn about studying in the United States and at NSU.
  • Wednesday, March 4th - Machu Picchu Day Trip - travel by coach, train to Aguas Calientes, public bus into Machu Picchu. Guided tour including lunch.
  • Thursday, March 5th - Second day of Service Learning - projects TBD. Afternoon, ceramics class in San Sebastian with local artist.
  • Friday, March 6th - Enjoy time at a local Artisanal market to shop for souvenirs and gifts hand-crafted in Peru. Final group farewell dinner to reflect on experience.
  • Saturday, March 7th - Prepare for departure. Private coach to airport. Flight back to Cusco departs 4:05pm. Short layover in Bogota.
  • Sunday, March 8th - Flight arrives in Miami at 12:34am. Shark Shuttle arrives back to NSU by 3:00am.

  • PAYMENT #2 - $1,000.00 | Due: Sunday, December 1, 2019
  • FINAL PAYMENT - $850.00-$1,000.00 | Due: Sunday, January 5, 2020

  • Shark Shuttle transfers from NSU to Miami Airport
  • International airfare from Miami airport to Cusco, Peru
  • Airport transfers and all local transportation within Peru

Not Included

  • Meals (other than those listed above)

  • Immigration documents, if necessary (passport, visas if necessary for non-US passport holders)
